Sea Turtles Hatching

Lois and I were out exercising on Monday morning (2/8/2010) when we came accross the turtle egg hatching area on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. The area is protected with a chain link fence and maintained by an enviornmental group. About 50 baby turtles had recently hatched and were being gathered up by the enviornmentalists. We watched for a long time and they let us hold one of the babies and then release it into the sea. I finally decided to run up the hill and get my camera (about a half a mile up the hill and back) and try and get some photos before they removed all the babies. They had all been gathered up by the time I got back, completely out of breath, and I took some quick photos. I apologize for the quality of the photos. I was out of breath, the turtles were moving rpidly and I had the speed set too slow for clear shots. It was still a very special experience to see and hold the baby and to release it into the sea. (We can only hope that it is thriving) The rest of the babies were going to be released up the beach at sunset tonight.
