In And Around the Beautifulf Colonial City of Trinidad : A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Trinidad is a beautiful colonial city that recalls life in Cuba's 19th-centurn glory days. While the historic center is only a few square blocks in size, it boasts some of Cuba's most beautiful architecture - including cobbled streets, pastel-colored buildings, charming plazas, and old palaces. It is also the gateway to the Valley of the Sugar Mills, home to some 70 historic mill structures and an enduring reminder of the imprtance of sugar to Cuba's ecomony. I loved the architecture and the color in Trinidad and found it to be one of the most photogenic places I have visited. I have included a lot of photos of the color and the architecture in this gallery. Hope you enjoy them.

Bud and his wife Lois live in Puerto Vallarta on the West Coast of Mexico.. They travel as much as possible and continue to seek new and unique experiences and photo opportunities.

Bud's initial focus was on nature and landscape photography. His interests continue to expand and evolve and include candid photos of people, black and white photography, details of urban life and architectural elements. As he works in a location, Bud seeks to capture details that reveal the essence of the people, landscape, architecture and life of the places visited. His work reflects a determination to capture unique compositions and images that go beyond the familar.

His work has been exhibited in Martinez, California, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Santa Fe, New Mexico and several locations in Alabama including the Kennedy-Douglas Center For The Arts and the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. His photos have appeared in conjunction with the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, National Geographic Traveler Magazine, Overseas Adventure Travel on line, and in the P V Mirror, a Puerto Vallarta City Paper. Bud's photos have also received frequent recognition in the online contests at BetterPhoto.com.

Copa Vallarta Millonaria De Charreria : The best Charro teams in Mexico were in action from February 16 to 20 at the Lienzo Charro Miguel "Prieto" Ibarria Stadium in Puerto Vallarta. Lois and I attended the event on the afternoon of February 17th and were among the only gringos in the crowd. This "Mexican Rodeo" was exciting and unique and we had a great experience. There was a lot a action and I took over 600 photos in about two hours in an effort to capture the excitement. A few of the shots are included in this gallery in an attempt to capture the essence of the event.

Fiestas Guadalupanas 2010 : The photos in this gallery are from the final day of the "Fiestas Guadalupanas" on December 12, 2010, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Las Peregrinaciones are the pilgrimages to Mexico's patron saint - the Virgin of Guadalupe. The pilgrimages occur during the first twelve days of December each year in Puerto Vallarta. Lois and I have been privileged to observe this event many times and it is always a very moving experience. I have tried to capture the spirit and the essence of this event through the faces of the participants in the MAGNA PERIGRINACION DE LOS FAVORECIDOS (the favored ones) on display here. December 12th marks the anniversary of the day when the Virgin of Guadalupe made her miraculous appearance to Juan Diego in Mexico City. This gallery shows just a few of the thousands and thousands of "Favorecidos" who were walking to the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Puerto Vallarta on December 12, 2008. I have attempted to capture the spirit of the participants in this event. This was a challenge due to the mass of people participating.

The Ballet Folklorico Municipal Xiutla : The Ballet Folklorico Municipal Xiutla celebrated its fourteenth anniversary with a tour of Mexico, including performing before 5,000 attendees at the prestigious XIII International Folklore Festival in Zacatecas. Representing Puerto Vallarta and the state of Jalisco, they were the youngest group of dancers among the more than 30 national and international groups that participated. We saw their final performance of 2008 in Puerto Vallarta on December 19th. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!! The lighting and the motion were significant challenges. Most of the shots were taken without flash and a high ISO.

Good Friday In Puerto Vallarta : Easter is a major holiday in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta held a number of pagents on Good Friday. We followed the one in our neighborhood which lasted about a hour and a half. The stations of the cross were set up in front of neighborhood homes. There was a large contingent of people following the participants in the pagent. You can tell from the expressions on the participants faces that they take this very seriously. It was a great experience for us and we really got caught up in the pagentry.

Dubrovnik, Croatia : Today, still an exquisite walled city, Dubrovnik's character reflects its storied past an an independent city-state that rivaled Venice. Dubrovnik was a fortress city that served as the base for a fleet of ships that carried trade between much of Europe and the Middle East. The city-state's period of automomy extended from 1358 to 1808. In recent times, some of Dubrovnik's historic sites sustained damage in the Balkan conflicts of the early 1990's, but the city has been peaceful for over ten years and largely restored under UNESCO supervision.

The Island of Kirk And The Postojna Caves : This gallery includes the tour Kirk, the larges of Croatia's islands, and the much smaller neighboring island of Kosljun, whose only inhabitants are monks living in a Renaissance-era Franciscan monastery. The Ruins of Paquime : Hundreds of years ago, in northern Chihuahua, a sophisticated culture settled in a large city. At the cultural development of Casas Grandes, in the zone of the Gran Chichimeca, you can find the archaeological city of Paquime. This civilization flourished, declined and disappeared between 700 - 1340 AD. The Paquime enjoyed many comforts, comparatively speaking, for they had an efficient water system which brought hot water from the hot springs to the north of the city, and distributed it to all parts of the building complex. They also had a drainage system that flushed away the refuse. These water channels are visible throughout the ruins.

Tarahumara Indians : The Tarahumars (foot runners) are native inhabitants of the Sierra Madre with a current population of approximately 60,000. Archaeological studies reveal that they have lived in this area for thousands of years. Scenes From The Alhambra Valley : The Alhambra Valley, which is situated on the southern edge of Martinez, California, is about thirty miles east of San Francisco. The photos in this gallery were taken on the 27th and 28th of February 2009. The Valley is extremely beautiful at this time of year. The bright yellow of the mustard is a nice contrast to the beautiful green grass that covers the floor and the hills.

Tour of Portobelo : Portobelo is a quaint Caribbean town officially founded in 1597. Among the highlights is a stop at the Church of San Felipe, one of the oldest building in the city and the sanctuary of the "Black Christ" This 300- year old statue of Jesus bearing the cross was bound for Columbia aboard a spanish galleon when the ship sank. The statue was washed ashore and carried to Portobelo, where it remains a cherished icon and the focus of an annual festival. Portobelo is a colorful town with many photo ops. I am fascinated with interesting doors and windows and found many here. This is also the place our group boarded the boat for our curise through the Panama Canal.

Crossing the Isthmus of Panama Via The Panama Canal : The Panama canal is a lock-type canal, approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) long, that unites the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans at one of the narrowest points of both the Isthmus of Panama and the American Continent. The Canal officially opened its doors to international trade on August 15, 1914, and since then, more than 942,000 vessels have transited the waterway. The Canal's three sets of locks, each of which has two lanes, operate as water lifts to elevate ships 26 meters above sea level to the level of Gatun Lake, in their transit of the channel across the continental Divide, and then lower them back to sea level on the opposite side of the Isthmus. The 12.6 km Gaillard Cut is the narrowest stretch in the Panama Canal and represents 15 percent of the waterway's total length. The Cut, extending from Pedro Miguel Locks to Gamboa, crosses the Continental Divide. We crossed from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. It was a great experience!!

Visiting Panama La Vieja Inside Panama City : Panama La Vieja is one of the last remnants of the original Panama City. This area of the City contains the Presidential Palace and many beautiful historical buildings. It is currently experiencing a significant amount of renovation and revitalization. I found many interesting doors and windows, both old and new. We also saw the Iglesia San Jose which contains "El Altar de Oro".

Sea Turtles Hatching : Lois and I were out exercising on Monday morning (2/8/2010) when we came accross the turtle egg hatching area on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. The area is protected with a chain link fence and maintained by an enviornmental group. About 50 baby turtles had recently hatched and were being gathered up by the enviornmentalists. We watched for a long time and they let us hold one of the babies and then release it into the sea. I finally decided to run up the hill and get my camera (about a half a mile up the hill and back) and try and get some photos before they removed all the babies. They had all been gathered up by the time I got back, completely out of breath, and I took some quick photos. I apologize for the quality of the photos. I was out of breath, the turtles were moving rpidly and I had the speed set too slow for clear shots. It was still a very special experience to see and hold the baby and to release it into the sea. (We can only hope that it is thriving) The rest of the babies were going to be released up the beach at sunset tonight.

Romance Of The Rhine & Mosel : This gallery highlights a very enjoyable Grand Circle Travel Small Ship Cruise on the Rhine and Mosel Rivers through Switzerland, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgum from mid August to early September 2011. The scenery was spectacular and the service provided by Grand Circle Travel and their staff was exceptional. We were fortunae to experience good weather throughout the trip although the available light was frequently "challenging".
